# Getting around Bangkok: BTS, MRT, boats and taxis

The fastest, cheapest ways to cross the city — and the tourist traps to skip.

The BTS Skytrain and MRT subway are fast, cold and cheap (฿16–62); grab a stored-value card to skip queues. Chao Phraya express boats serve the riverside sights for pocket change, and klong boats rocket commuters east–west. Metered taxis are plentiful — insist on the meter — and ride-hailing apps remove the negotiation. Tuk-tuks are for fun, not value: agree the price first. Avoid road travel at rush hour (7–9am, 5–8pm) when the rail lines win every time.
