Bangkok has rooftop bars at every price, from the hotel towers on the river and along Sathorn to terraces on the top floor of a soi hostel. Sunset falls between 6pm and 6:50pm all year (the city's day length barely changes), so the 5:30–7pm slot is the one to book; after 9pm most places outside the top tier take walk-ins. Dress code is what catches people out: no shorts, flip-flops or sleeveless shirts at the high-end places, more relaxed at mid-tier ones before 8pm. A rooftop with a restaurant attached is the answer to the recurring question of a sunset drink without a party.

- Rain closes open-air rooftops for the duration of the shower, May to October; most have an indoor level and reopen within the hour.
- The named towers add 10% service and 7% VAT; a 'signature' cocktail there is 500–900 baht (2026, indicative).
- Keep one smart-casual outfit in the suitcase for this. Rubber sandals fail the door almost everywhere.

- Bars and clubs close at 2am, except in three Bangkok zones licensed to 4am: Silom–Patpong, RCA with New Phetchaburi Road, and Ratchadaphisek Road.
- The drinking age is 20, for Thais and foreigners alike.
- Shops, supermarkets and convenience stores sell alcohol from 11am to midnight every day.

Silom, Patpong & Sathorn (31), Thonglor & Ekkamai (28) and Khao San & Phra Athit (23) hold the most of this list. Silom–Patpong is one of the three official 4am zones; many bars still choose to shut at 2am, and Sathorn's sois are off the zone map.
