Thai Customs said on 25 October 2026 that it arrested 40 people at Suvarnabhumi between 1 and 24 October for trying to fly out with cannabis flower, 577 kg in total. Most were foreigners: 11 Indian, seven Chinese and five British nationals, plus travellers from Canada, Spain, Portugal and elsewhere. Since January 2026 the count is 517 arrests and 10,628 kg.

Buying cannabis in Thailand does not make it legal to take home. Customs repeats that flower is allowed for medical use only and cannot leave the country without authorisation, and the fine is 30,000 baht for every kilogram. Customs and AOT have increased random checks on outbound passengers and checked luggage.
