Thailand requires ID checks for paid social media ads from 1 November

From 1 November 2026, social media platforms must check the identity of anyone placing a paid advert aimed at people in Thailand, including advertisers based abroad. The government calls the rule "No ID, No Ads". A deputy government spokeswoman said on 25 October that it covers TikTok and other platforms as well as Meta's Facebook and Instagram. Ordinary posts are not affected.

Platforms can verify advertisers with government ID or an approved digital identity service, and must keep the advertiser's details for at least 90 days after the ad service ends. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society says the aim is to trace scam adverts; earlier in October police arrested 39 people in an investment scam that recruited victims through Facebook ads.

What it changes for a visitor: nothing to do, but a sponsored post offering cheap tours, rentals or investments is still not proof of a real business. If you see a suspected scam ad, the spokeswoman's advice is to save screenshots, links and account details before reporting it.
