By Cesar RodriguezUpdated
Airlines have cancelled 108 Chiang Mai flights and retimed 80 for 21-28 November to keep clear of Yi Peng lanterns, and the airport closes for set hours on 24 and 25 November.

Airlines have cancelled 108 flights to and from Chiang Mai and moved 80 more to other times between 21 and 28 November, the week of the Yi Peng lantern festival. They have also added 105 extra services that week, according to the airport's figures as of 30 October. The airport expects more than 200,000 lanterns inside its flight safety zone.
The airport has asked airlines not to operate from 10:00 to 12:00 on 24 November and from 19:00 to 01:00 the next morning on 24 and 25 November. Its daily operating hours drop from about 20 to about 12 over the festival. Around 210 flights a day are still expected, up to 232 on the busiest days.
If you fly to or from Chiang Mai between 21 and 28 November, check the flight time with your airline before leaving, since more changes are possible. The airport asks passengers to arrive two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international one. Releasing lanterns is banned in the red zone under the take-off and landing paths.
