Thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail forecast for Bangkok, 5 to 9 November
By Cesar RodriguezUpdated
The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail in Bangkok from 5 to 9 November, and the city has lowered canal levels to take the runoff.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail for Bangkok between 5 and 9 November, with heavy rain also expected in the surrounding provinces and in the east and south. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt told district offices to watch for falling trees and storm damage, and the city has drawn down canals and retention ponds to make room for runoff.
The governor said most streets that flood again and again sit next to large building sites, rail lines under construction among them. Water there usually drains within an hour; Soi Ramkhamhaeng 90 is one spot where construction has slowed it.
The forecast comes while the city is still assessing the last floods: about 150,000 residents have applied for aid through the Claim Bangkok system. Before heading out, the TMD forecast and its rain radar are the sources that update through the day.
