Booking notes

Ferry + Flight · 3h35–6h15 · ฿1,200–฿3,900

Koh Lanta → Krabi & Ao Nang: Klong Jilad pier to Saladan. High season is roughly October to April; through the monsoon the minivan is the leg that keeps running.

Krabi & Ao Nang → Bangkok: Usually a little cheaper than Phuket and much closer to Ao Nang, Railay and the Lanta and Phi Phi piers. If the Andaman islands are the plan rather than Patong, this is the better arrival.

Speedboat / catamaran + Flight · 3h40–6h10 · ฿2,250–฿5,200

Koh Lanta → Phuket: Half the time of the ferry for close to double the fare. In choppy water the speedboat is the rougher ride, not the smoother one.

Phuket → Bangkok: The most competitive domestic route in the country, which is why the floor sits under ฿1,000 outside holidays. Phuket airport is 32km north of Patong — budget an hour and ฿200–800 for that transfer on top.

Minivan + Flight · 4h05–6h50 · ฿1,150–฿3,650

Koh Lanta → Krabi & Ao Nang: Runs whatever the sea is doing, which is the whole argument for it. Our source still describes two short vehicle-ferry crossings on the way in; bridge work has been under way on that link, so check on the day rather than assuming either version.

Krabi & Ao Nang → Bangkok: Usually a little cheaper than Phuket and much closer to Ao Nang, Railay and the Lanta and Phi Phi piers. If the Andaman islands are the plan rather than Patong, this is the better arrival.

Ferry + Bus · 16h15–21h30 · ฿1,500–฿2,500

Koh Lanta → Phuket: Three and a half to five hours, usually with a Phi Phi stop where you change boats. Dry-season service; November to April is when the timetable is full.

Phuket → Bangkok: Twelve to fourteen hours for a fare that a flight booked in advance regularly beats. It exists, it's cheap in the last-minute case, and almost nobody should choose it over the plane.

Both ends of the trip

Koh Lanta

Long west-coast beaches with a road down the spine — the Andaman island you can drive.

Koh Lanta has no weather station of ours; the nearest one we track is driest Nov–Apr and wettest May–Oct.

Bangkok

The arrival point for most trips and the hub every rail and bus line runs back to.

Airport BKK / DMK: Two airports 50km apart on opposite sides of the city; a domestic connection between them needs 3 hours, not 1.

Bangkok is driest Nov–Apr and wettest May–Oct on its own monthly rain-day normals.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get from Koh Lanta to Bangkok?

3h35–6h15 on the quickest option we hold — ferry + flight with Ao Nang Travel and Tour, changing at Krabi & Ao Nang. The slowest of the 4 options here takes 16h15–21h30, so the spread between them is about 13h58. Times are for the scheduled leg and exclude the transfer at either end.

How much is Koh Lanta to Bangkok?

From ฿1,150–฿3,650 one way by minivan + flight, checked 7 September 2026. The quickest option costs ฿1,200–฿3,900 and saves about 33min, so the gap between them is ฿50 against roughly that much time. That band comes from a dated route listing rather than a published tariff, so treat it as indicative.

Is there a direct service from Koh Lanta to Bangkok?

Not one we hold. Every routing changes once — the quickest goes through Krabi & Ao Nang, and our totals add 45min–2h30 for that change on top of the two legs. Booking both halves on one ticket makes a missed connection the operator's problem rather than yours.

Does the Koh Lanta to Bangkok route run all year?

Not every leg of it. 3 of the legs behind these options carry a season note — Koh Lanta to Krabi & Ao Nang by ferry: Full timetable roughly October–April; reduced May–October · Koh Lanta to Phuket by speedboat / catamaran: Dry season, roughly November–April · Koh Lanta to Phuket by ferry: Dry season, roughly November–April. At least one option on this page runs year-round, so the route itself does not close — but the choice narrows in the monsoon.

Where does the Koh Lanta to Bangkok service leave from, and how often does it run?

Koh Lanta to Krabi & Ao Nang: Klong Jilad pier to Saladan. High season is roughly October to April; through the monsoon the minivan is the leg that keeps running. Several daily in high season, reduced May–October. Krabi & Ao Nang to Bangkok: Usually a little cheaper than Phuket and much closer to Ao Nang, Railay and the Lanta and Phi Phi piers. If the Andaman islands are the plan rather than Patong, this is the better arrival. Roughly 15 departures a day.

Going the other way, or further

The return trip is on the Bangkok to Koh Lanta page — fares are the same in both directions on almost every leg here, but the timetables are not. To string this hop into a longer trip with a pace check, use the route planner, and see the island comparison for which coast is dry in the month you are travelling.

The Bangkok end of this leg starts at a station or a terminal rather than a hotel door: getting around Bangkok has the BTS, MRT and boat fares for reaching Hua Lamphong, Krung Thep Aphiwat and the two bus terminals, and airport to city covers the Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang runs if the leg is a flight.
